Training that fits your print-and-cut workflow
Contour Cutting offers hands-on training for teams that need accurate, repeatable results on contour plotters and related finishing work. We train operators, supervisors and support staff on the parts of the job that matter day to day, from loading media correctly to checking registration before a run starts. Whether your team is in a busy print room in Sandton or working from a smaller shop in Germiston, the session is shaped around your machine setup and output needs.
Our aim is to reduce wasted media, avoid slowdowns during rush jobs and help your staff work with more confidence. We also cover practical points that often get missed, like how to keep production moving during load-shedding, what to do when a cut starts drifting, and how to spot issues before they become expensive rework.
Choose the right session for your team
Each booking starts with a quick discussion so we can match the session to your skill level and the type of work you do. Some teams need full operator induction after a new install. Others only need a refresher on artwork cut lines or a supervisor coaching session for managing output quality. If you are running jobs from Midrand, Boksburg or Randburg, we can also support mixed teams with different levels of experience.
- Operator Induction for new staff who need the basics covered properly
- Artwork Cut Lines for teams preparing files for clean cutting
- Media Loading and handling to reduce skew and misfeeds
- Blade Pressure Setup for different films, stickers and print stocks
- Registration Calibration to improve cut alignment
- Production Workflows for faster, more organised jobs
- Supervisor Coaching for quality control and team oversight
What we cover during the booking
Training is practical and job-focused. We work through the steps your team uses on the floor, not theory that gets forgotten by the next shift. That can include setting up blade pressure for a specific media type, checking cut lines against printed graphics, and building a routine for machine checks before production starts. For coastal clients, we also discuss humidity and how it can affect media storage and finishing. For Gauteng teams, dust and temperature changes in warehouses can be just as important.
Where needed, we include a troubleshooting session so the operator knows what to check first when a job starts giving trouble. That saves time and helps keep your cutter productive when work is busy and there is pressure to finish on the same day.
How to book a session with our support team
Booking is straightforward. Send your request by email and tell us where you are based, what machine you are using and which training topic you need. If your team is in Isando, Sandton Support, Midrand Support, Germiston Support, Boksburg Support or Randburg Support, we can plan the session around your site access and production hours. Nationwide installs and training support can also be arranged for other towns and provinces.
- Email cut@contourcutting.co.za
- Share your location, preferred dates and number of attendees
- List the machine model or cutter type if you know it
- Tell us whether you need induction, refresher training or coaching
- We will confirm timing and next steps with your team
If your operation runs on tight deadlines, let us know. We can plan shorter focused sessions, or split the training across more than one visit so your production does not stop for long.
What to prepare before the trainer arrives
A little preparation helps the session move faster and keeps it relevant to your real production issues. Make sure the cutter area is clean, the power supply is stable and the key staff members are present. If you have sample jobs that are giving trouble, keep them aside for review. It also helps to have the usual media, blades and printed samples ready so we can work through real examples.
- Keep your cutter, computer and print samples accessible
- Have a few problem files available for review
- Check that operators can show the normal workflow they use
- Set aside enough time for questions and repeat demonstrations
- Tell us about any safety rules or site sign-in requirements in advance
Why regular refresher training pays off
Even experienced teams benefit from refresher training, especially when output changes, staff rotate or new media types come into the business. A short update can cut down on mistakes, improve registration and keep the finishing side of the business moving. It also helps supervisors spot bad habits early before they lead to scrap or delays. We have seen many teams in Johannesburg and beyond recover lost time simply by tightening up their setup routine.
If your operation has grown since the last training, a supervisor coaching session can help you set clearer checks, assign tasks better and keep standards consistent across shifts. The result is steadier production and fewer last-minute fixes.
